Vol.11 Story about polarized lenses

We have introduced color lenses and dimming lenses in "Story of Glasses and Lenses Vol.8 , Vol.9 , Vol.10".

This time, we will talk about "polarized lenses".

Some people think of the word "changing lens" in the sense that the color changes, and some people confuse it with the dimming lens of Vol.10. I'll guide you.

1. What is polarized light?

Light emitted from the sun and lighting equipment travels in various directions. This is called unpolarized or unpolarized.

When the light hits fine particles in the air and is confused (confused light), or when it is reflected by glass or the surface of the water and becomes a regular direction, it is called "polarized light".

In other words, when the light hits something, the direction of travel is determined, and the "light is biased".

A laser beam is a typical practical example of polarized light.

Some 3D used in movie theaters and theme parks also use polarization technology.

It is made by sandwiching a special film called a polarizing film between lenses, or a lens with a function to control polarization as a coating on the lens surface.

The products and colors we handle differ depending on the manufacturer and retailer, but we can make them with or without prescription, and the materials used for the lenses are also different.

Some are made of glass, while others are made of polycarbonate.

The light (polarized light) reflected on the glass surface or water surface is controlled by a filter or coating to reduce glare, and there is almost no difference in the effect with any type of polarized lens.

Until now, it was thought that this change in axial length was remarkable until about the age of 10, and that it almost stopped by the age of 20.

Recently, however, it has been said that even adults, that is, people aged 20 and over who have high myopic power, tend to elongate their eye axial length, and myopia progresses easily. As discussed in Vol.11-Accommodation power-, the use of overcorrected eyeglasses and contact lenses is deeply involved in changes in myopia in adults.

If you wear overcorrected eyeglasses or contact lenses, you can see clearly from a distance, but when you are looking at about 30 cm from your hand, the retina is out of focus even if you use the accommodation power, and the focus in the eye is lower than the retina. It goes too deep. As a result, a phenomenon occurs in which the axial length of the eye is elongated in order to align the retina with the focal point.

Furthermore, if you wear over-corrective glasses or contact lenses, you are always looking at things in a state where you have to use your power of accommodation, which puts an excessive burden on the ciliary muscle, which can lead to systemic symptoms. This can lead to severe eye strain that can also cause eye strain. This is called accommodation strain, accommodation spasm, or accommodation dysregulation. The ciliary muscle is an area controlled by the autonomic nerves, and excessive strain can upset the balance of the autonomic nerves, causing systemic symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, and nausea.

2. Coping with myopia in adults

I have explained a little bit about changes in axial length and accommodation disorders, but what they both have in common is the part that says, ``The condition peculiar to modern people, who often look at close objects.''

It has long been said that you should rest your eyes after long hours of close-up work, correct posture, work at a desk in a well-lit environment, and bask in the sun outside. was.

The change in axial length that has been stretched will not return to the original. Even when dealing with accommodation disorders, there are some things that are difficult to improve immediately, but we recommend that you first check whether your current glasses are suitable for you at an optician or an ophthalmologist.

At our store, staff with specialized knowledge will carefully listen to each customer's situation and propose the best eyeglass frames and lenses. In addition, we will propose a comfortable way of seeing by measuring the degree in a state close to nature.
